Description
This framed example of the Ulysses butterfly is a popular choice with collectors. The upper sides of the Ulysses butterfly’s wings are an iridescent, electric blue. As a result, this species of butterfly is very striking. The bright blue colour is produced by the microscopic structure of the scales which make up the wings. This is known as structural colouration. The underside is a subdued and less attractive black and brown combination. Please note, the underside is not visible in our frames.
Adult Ulysses butterflies grow to various sizes. It is dependent on the exact subspecies. Typical wingspans are about 4.1 inches (10.5 cm).
Our framed Ulysses butterfly specimens have been sourced responsibly. Find out more about where we source our butterflies and moths from.
