Also known as the purple spotted swallowtail. This species is native to Papua New Guinea. This butterfly is a member of the swallowtail family, Papilionidae. These butterflies are found in the highlands, at altitudes typically of 4,500 to 8,000 feet above sea level.

The name honours the famous butterfly collector Emil Weiske.

Out of stock

The Weiskei butterfly is considered one of the most beautiful and desirable amongst collectors and enthusiasts. The underside of the wings is a basic dull brown whilst its topside is black with purple, green and blue spots. These spots are actually windows to pigmented areas within the wings. The top-level of wing scales contains no pigment.

Adults have a typical wingspan of 5-6cm (2.6 – 3.4inches).

How to display

This frame comes with a single brass hanging hook which can be screwed into the rear of the frame, allowing you to hang it on a wall.

Alternatively, the frame is deep enough to stand freely by itself on a shelf.

Where to display

To preserve the colours of your specimen, it's best not to display your frame in direct sunlight. You should also avoid areas of high moisture, such as bathrooms and kitchens.

About our frames

All of our frames are handmade and feature mitred joints. The hardwood we use is of a very dark brown colour, with visible woodgrain.

All of our frames use real glass.

Postage and packaging

All frames are bubble wrapped before posting. As an independent, family-run business, we try to re-use as much packaging as possible to limit our impact on the environment.

Please note – we do not ship overseas.
