Description
The Blue Carpenter Bee is a popular one in our collection. Our frames display the stunning blue body and wings. The midsection of the body of these bees are covered with small blue hairs, that gives the bees their beautiful colour. The abdomen and sides are also covered in hair albeit finer.
There are several different types of carpenter species, however generally the females live alongside their own daughters or sisters, creating a small social group. They use wood bits to form partitions between the cells in the nest. A some bore holes in wood. Since the tunnels are near the surface, structural damage is generally minor. However, carpenter bee nests are attractive to woodpecker which may do further damage by drilling into the wood to feed on the bees or their larvae.
Blue Carpenter Bee’s are a large species with an average size of 0.90 inches (2.3cms).
Our framed Blue Carpenter Bee specimens have been sourced responsibly. Find out more about where we source our butterflies and moths from.
