A real Jucunda butterfly set and mounted in a 6×6 inch wooden frame, approximately 1 inch deep. 

The Jucunda butterfly is also known as the Great Blue Hookwing butterfly.  It belongs to the leafwing butterfly species. They are found in the lowland Amazonian rainforests of Peru, Bolivia and Brazil. The Jucunda is the only butterfly in the Napeocles genus.

Description

Our framed Jucunda butterfly showcases the exquisite black and pale blue wings of this species. Some people describe their wings as being similar to the moonlight reflecting off of water at night. This explains why some people refer to the Jucunda butterfly as the Great Blue Moonset butterfly.

In contrast, the opposite sides of their wings (not seen in our framed examples) are a mottled brown. This brown colouration makes this species have the appearance of dead leaves. This is a common defense mechanism among leafwing butterflies.

Adult Jucundas spend most of their time higher up in forest canopies. They are not often spotted from the ground, except when basking in the sun with their wings outstretched.

Adult Jucunda butterflies have typical wingspans ranging between 3.1 and 3.9 inches (8 to 10 cm).

How to display

This frame comes with a single brass hanging hook which can be screwed into the rear of the frame, allowing you to hang it on a wall.

Alternatively, the frame is deep enough to stand freely by itself on a shelf.
Where to display

To preserve the colours of your specimen, it's best not to display your frame in direct sunlight. You should also avoid areas of high moisture, such as bathrooms and kitchens.
About our frames

All of our frames are handmade and feature mitred joints. The hardwood we use is of a very dark brown colour, with visible woodgrain.

All frames are bubble wrapped before posting. As an independent, family-run business, we try to re-use as much packaging as possible to limit our impact on the environment. Postage and packaging is charged at £4.99 per order.
