A real Rurina butterfly set and mounted in a 5×5 inch wooden frame, approximately 1 inch deep. 

Also known as the Tailed Sulphur, Rurina butterflies can be found in Mexico, Brazil and Peru. It is a migrating species, which thrives in habitats such as rainforests, deciduous woodlands, scrubby grasslands and farmland. As a lowland species, the Rurina is rarely found above 1000m elevation.

Description

The Rurina butterfly exhibits a bright yellow wing colouration. The wings are speckled with little splashes of brown to form its pattern.

Male Rurina’s usually associate themselves in tightly packed groups of around a dozen butterflies. When alarmed by danger from predators, the entire group will erupt spontaneously into the air. The group of Rurinas will then swirl about for several minutes in a mass of fluttering yellow wings. In contrast, female Rurina butterflies are less commonly seen and are a paler yellow in colour.

Adult Rurina butterflies have typical wingspans ranging between 1.5 to 1.7 inches (3.9 to 4.4cm).

How to display

This frame comes with a single brass hanging hook which can be screwed into the rear of the frame, allowing you to hang it on a wall.

Alternatively, the frame is deep enough to stand freely by itself on a shelf.
Where to display

To preserve the colours of your specimen, it's best not to display your frame in direct sunlight. You should also avoid areas of high moisture, such as bathrooms and kitchens.
