Description
The Sylvia butterfly can be found throughout Sri Lanka, India, Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia, Borneo, Sumatra, the Philippines, Sulawesi, Java, Bali, Papua New Guinea and Irian Jaya. They live in rainforests, usually close to rivers.
With around 32 subspecies, Sylvia butterflies can be found in a variety of colours, such as green, brown and gold. The specimens we use are blue (hence the common name of Blue Clipper). It is thought that the earliest Sylvia butterflies were separated when mountains and islands were formed, allowing for the different colors to evolve in their own particular areas.
Adult Sylvia butterflies have typical wingspans ranging between 1.8 to 2.9 inches (4.8 to 7.5cm).
Our framed Sylvia butterfly specimens have been sourced responsibly. Find out more about where we source our butterflies and moths from.
