A real Vindula butterfly set and mounted in a 5×5 inch wooden frame, approximately 1 inch deep. 

Vindula butterflies are often referred to as Common Cruisers or the Malay Cruiser. They are part of the Nymphalid family, found in tropical forest areas of South and Southeast Asia. In Malaysia, this butterfly is found at elevations between sea level and about 500m. They are a sun-loving species.

Description

The Vindula butterfly is one of the most familiar species in the Asian region of the world. The male and female of this species differ – with only the males exhibiting dazzling orangey-brown coloured wings. Females are similar to the bright orange males in patternation but have a duller, grey colouration and a broad white marking extending across both wings.

Males are usually seen singularly, or in couples basking in the sunshine. In the sun, they will keep their wings spread out. However, in very hot conditions they will hold them upright. Females are seen much less commonly, but can sometimes be found feeding on flowering bushes such as Rhododendrons.

Adult Vindula butterflies have typical wingspans ranging between 2.5 to 3.2 inches (6.3 to 8.1cm).

How to display

This frame comes with a single brass hanging hook which can be screwed into the rear of the frame, allowing you to hang it on a wall.

Alternatively, the frame is deep enough to stand freely by itself on a shelf.
Where to display

To preserve the colours of your specimen, it's best not to display your frame in direct sunlight. You should also avoid areas of high moisture, such as bathrooms and kitchens.
About our frames

All of our frames are handmade and feature mitred joints. The hardwood we use is of a very dark brown colour, with visible woodgrain.
